Surrender in tantric massage: a journey to inner connection

Surrender is a central component in tantric massage and also plays an essential role in life in general. Here we explore the meaning of surrender, the challenges associated with it, and how it can lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves and our relationships in tantric massage.

What does surrender mean?

Surrender is the conscious immersion in the moment. The absolute momentariness. The perfect presence. It requires presence and relinquishing control, which creates a space where intimacy and trust can flourish. When we feel surrendered, we accept life with all its facets – including the uncertainty it brings. This is a courageous attitude that can lead us to both inner peace and a deep connection with ourselves and others.

The fear of surrender

For many people, the thought of surrender triggers resistance and fear. The fear of losing control and vulnerability can be paralysing. We are often suspicious and afraid that our devotion will be abused. This fear can cause us to hold back in relationships and in life in general. But the longing to give up control and surrender is also strong.
Surrender is not possible without vulnerability. We must be willing to face feelings of powerlessness and give up the fight. When we practice surrender in a loving relationship, we open the door to a new, vibrant experience.

How can we develop devotion?

Practising presence and mindfulness
In order to develop devotion, it is crucial to be present in the moment. Mindfulness allows us to be aware of our thoughts, feelings and body sensations, which promotes a deeper connection with ourselves.
Accept feelings
We should surrender to the feelings that we often reject or judge. By learning to be with all our emotions, we change our relationship with everything around us.
Build trust
Trust is a basic prerequisite for surrender – both in ourselves and in others. Open communication and mindfulness are key here.
Embrace the moment
Surrender means no longer questioning the present moment. When we no longer resist what is happening, we experience deep inner peace.

Awareness in the moment
In order to practise devotion, we need to be aware of what is happening in the moment. The aim is to deepen and refine our perception of what is. Concrete exercises can consist of consciously feeling the flow of our thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations and at the same time perceiving the world around us in a differentiated way.
By listening – both inwardly and outwardly – we can sense when resistance to the present moment arises. We may realise that we are no longer listening to the other person and that our thoughts are elsewhere. At such moments, it is worth exploring the underlying feelings.
Unconditional surrender
Surrender is being unconditionally one with the moment. Even in the face of death, we can learn to entrust ourselves to what is about to happen and cultivate an attitude of consent.

Devotion in the simple things
Devotion often comes more easily to us in pleasant things: a delicious meal, a joyful moment or a beautiful landscape. Children show us how to devote ourselves to play and forget ourselves in the process.
In our professions, we can devote ourselves to a task with dedication. The more mindfully we carry out an activity, the closer we come to a state of devotion. It’s not about what we do, but how we do it.
Dedication can be practised in all areas of life, be it in the kitchen or on a walk. Those who practise devotion will find that agonising thoughts about unloved activities – such as ‘When will I finally be finished?’ or ‘How do I reward myself afterwards?’ – will disappear.
In the yogic tradition, we speak of a calm mind. When we act in the now, the agonising time factor is eliminated and we experience a feeling of deep contentment. This surrender can also connect us to everything around us.
Allow yourself to experience the transformative power of surrender – not only in tantric massage, but also in your everyday life. When you are ready to surrender to life with open arms, you will fully experience the beauty and depth of being.
